Wintergreen oil is extracted from Gaultheria procumbens of the Ericaceae family and is also known as checkerberry, teaberry and gaultheria. The oil is extracted from the leaves, previously macerated in water by steam distillation. Wintergreen blends well with other oils such as Bergamot, Basil, Cypress, Geranium, Lavender, Lemongrass, Marjoram, Oregano, Thyme , Vanilla , Ylang Ylang and Peppermint essential oils.
